These are difficult times and everyone is doing their best to keep everything COVID free. We are regularly washing our hands and wiping things down. But what about your car? Sure, you wipe down some common areas, but what about the seats, handles, seatbelt, the list can go on and on.

COVID is easily transmitted, the infected particles can land on just about everything. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be leaving us any time soon.

So here are a few cleaning hacks to help you and your family stay safe

Wipe down all the surfaces

I know it’s been said over and over, but it is important to wipe down all the surfaces in your vehicle. There are many surfaces you may not even think about, the touch screen, seat belts, car seat, console, ect. Not all the materials in your vehicle are the same. For instance, some cleaners can discolor leather. An alcohol based cleaner is typically best, but for leather, simple soap and water should suffice.

Wear disposable gloves

You can’t be too safe, wear disposable gloves to clean your car. We are constantly bringing germs into the car, from the grocery store, work, school, and errands.

Create a contained Space in your vehicle

To reduce contamination, create a contained space for groceries and such, away from you and your family. You may even want to place a mat underneath, creating a barrier, this way you can remove it and throw it into the wash. This way you can prevent cross contamination.

Don’t Let Your Vehicle Become A Breeding Ground!

According to the CDC, “Coronavirus can live on a solid surface up to 4 days. Some medical experts through published reports have been suggesting that some viruses can live up to 9 days on a solid surface,” according to the CDC. “It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”
